Formerly a solicitor in Edinburgh, Adam Bruce now works in the environmental power industry, having been UK Chief Executive of Airtricity and the Chairman of the British Wind Energy Association, now RenewableUK. He is currently Global Head of Corporate Affairs at Mainstream Renewable Power[3]. He is a director of the Friends of the Supergrid.[1]
In 2008 Bruce was appointed an Officer of Arms at the Lyon Court as Unicorn Pursuivant. He was previously Finlaggan Pursuivant (Private Officer of Arms to Clan Donald), in which role he was installed in 2005 by Godfrey Macdonald, 8th Baron Macdonald of Slate, Chief of the Name and Arms of Macdonald and High Chief of Clan Donald.
This marked a reinstatement of the traditional Macdonald clan heraldic role after a break of 510 years.[2] Bruce is 2nd cousin of Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, the current Fitzalan Pursuivant of Arms Extraordinary.[2]
On 17 May 2003, he married Donna Maria-Sofia Granito Pignatelli di Belmonte, a younger daughter of the Prince Don Angelo Gennaro, 13th Prince of Belmonte. They have two children.
